Zoology

the Department of Zoology, one of the oldest and most prestigious departments of Biswanath College. Inaugurated by Late Mohendra Mohan Choudhry, then Chief Minister of Assam (1970-1972), the department has been a cornerstone of the Science faculty since its inception. Originally offering only the Higher Secondary Science course, the department has expanded significantly over the years.

Growth and Development

The department began its journey in a temporary hall, but with the introduction of the Undergraduate course in 1986-87, it started growing rapidly under the able leadership of Prof. Pratap Kr Borah, the first Head of the Department. In 1992, the department shifted to its current, permanent building.

Today, the department is equipped with a state-of-the-art laboratory, a well-maintained departmental library, and a zoological museum that houses a collection of diverse species. Additionally, the department oversees the management of the Bio-Tech Hub at the College, facilitating cutting-edge research and development.

Collaborations and Achievements

With a strong focus on quality education and holistic student development, the department has continued to flourish. Recently, the Department of Zoology has collaborated with The Zoological Society of Assam to further enhance its research activities and outreach programs.
