The Department of Assamese at Biswanath College began its educational journey in 1960, coinciding with the establishment of the college. Initially, the department offered only general courses. Over time, it expanded to include both Honours and General courses, enriching its academic offerings.

### Courses Offered
Currently, the Department provides:
– **General Courses**: Offered at the undergraduate (BA) level in the Arts stream.
– **Higher Secondary Courses**: Available in both Arts and Science streams.
– **Honours Courses**: Available for students pursuing a BA in Assamese, with an intake capacity of 90 students.
– **Post-Graduate Course**: Since September 2018, the department has offered a Post-Graduate course in Assamese under Gauhati University, with an intake capacity of 20 students.

### Achievements and Success
The pass rate for Honours students in the BA 6th semester has consistently been 98% over the past several years. This excellent track record is a testament to the department’s commitment to academic excellence.
